Zebra OEMConfig managed configuration for Android

OEMConfig is a Zebra app that turns Zebra-only device features into managed configuration keys. This version (Powered by MX) is for Zebra devices on Android 11 and later. Its schema holds hundreds of keys, so this page lists the ones fleets set most; Zebra's TechDocs describe the complete schema and which devices support each key. Zebra groups its keys in nested bundles, so each key below shows its bundle, and the setups keep that structure.

Common setups

Common Zebra OEMConfig setups

Copy a setup into the managed configuration of a policy, then adjust the values. Each one uses only keys explained below.

Kiosk-style handheld

Hide the status bar, block Home and Recent apps keys and remove power off from the key menu, so people stay in the work app.

Warehouse screen settings

Keep the screen on while charging, use a one minute timeout and fixed brightness to save battery on the floor.

{
  "uiConfig": {
    "displayConfig": {
      "displayPowerConfig": {
        "displayPowerStayAwake": "15",

Same clock everywhere

Pull time from your own time server every six hours and show the 24 hour format on every device.

Questions

Zebra OEMConfig on managed Android

What is Zebra OEMConfig's package name on Android?

com.zebra.oemconfig.release. It is for Android 11 and later. Older devices use the Legacy version, whose package is com.zebra.oemconfig.common.

Do I need a different app per Zebra device?

No. One OEMConfig app covers supported Zebra devices on Android 11 and later. Zebra marks the devices and MX versions that support each key.

What happens if a device does not support a key?

The key is ignored on that device. Zebra's documentation lists the devices and MX version where each key works, so check it before relying on a setting.

Why are many values text, not numbers?

Most choices are stored as strings, such as 15 or 2. Keep them in quotes in your JSON, and leave a key out to leave that setting unchanged.
