Samsung Knox Mobile Enrollment (KME) and Android zero-touch enrollment both prepare company-owned Android devices for management during setup, but they are not interchangeable. KME is Samsung's enrollment service for supported Samsung devices. Zero-touch is Google's Android Enterprise service for eligible devices registered by participating resellers across supported manufacturers.
For the EMM enrollment use case compared here, both services hand the device to a compatible enterprise mobility management (EMM) provider; neither is the day-to-day management console by itself. Samsung documents separate KME paths for supported Knox cloud services, which are outside this Android Enterprise EMM comparison. Choose based on the exact device fleet, reseller path, region, EMM support, management mode, and operating workflow. If a Samsung device is configured in both services, Google documents that KME takes precedence.

How Android zero-touch enrollment works
With zero-touch, an authorized reseller or Google partner registers an eligible device to the customer's zero-touch account. An administrator assigns an enterprise configuration. On first boot or after a factory reset, the device checks for that configuration, downloads the selected device policy controller, and continues the company-owned provisioning flow.
Google's zero-touch guide for IT administrators currently requires an eligible device, Google Mobile Services, a participating reseller, and an EMM that supports company-owned devices. The related device setup guide lists full device management, dedicated-device management, and work profiles on company-owned devices as supported management sets, subject to EMM support.
How Samsung Knox Mobile Enrollment works
KME is Samsung's automated enrollment service for corporate-owned Samsung devices. Administrators use the Knox Admin Portal to approve devices, create an enrollment profile, and assign that profile. Reseller-uploaded devices can use the out-of-box experience after a profile is assigned.
Samsung's current getting-started guide requires a supported Samsung device, Knox account access, regional availability, network access, and an EMM that supports KME. Samsung also documents a QR enrollment path for supported EMM enrollment on Android 10 or later, including some devices not uploaded by a reseller. That QR flow still requires network access; it is not evidence of universal offline provisioning.
When zero-touch is usually the better fit
- Your company buys supported Android devices from more than one manufacturer.
- Your reseller and EMM already support zero-touch for the intended management mode.
- You want one Android Enterprise provisioning workflow across an eligible mixed fleet.
- You can validate Google Mobile Services, network access, configuration assignment, and reset behavior before rollout.
When KME may be the better fit
- Your company-owned fleet is made up of supported Samsung devices.
- Your Samsung-approved reseller already uploads devices to the correct Knox customer account.
- Your chosen EMM explicitly supports the KME profile and enrollment flow you plan to use.
- Your team prefers the Knox Admin Portal workflow and has confirmed regional, device, version, and licensing requirements.
KME availability does not automatically mean that every Knox capability, advanced setting, or EMM integration is included. Samsung's current KME FAQ distinguishes the enrollment service from paid advanced settings and directs administrators to the current supported-device list.
Plan a controlled enrollment pilot
- Confirm that every device is company-owned and eligible for the intended service and management mode.
- Confirm the reseller, customer account, region, EMM, agent or policy controller, and exact profile or configuration.
- Check whether any Samsung device is registered and configured in both KME and zero-touch; remove the unintended assignment before testing.
- Factory-reset a representative test device and validate network access, setup screens, management ownership, policy, required apps, and support information.
- Test profile changes, device replacement, deregistration, transfer of ownership, recovery, and escalation with the reseller and EMM.
- Roll out in batches and stop when observed behavior differs from the approved device, configuration, or support plan.
